Hungerford Jazz Forum

Hungerford Jazz Forum gives players and singers of all levels the opportunity to perform for a live audience in a friendly environment.

Beginning and intermediate players are welcome as we recognise that "doing it for real" is the best experience there is. Woodshedding is essential but it's a waste of time if you don't get up and blow!

Hungerford Jazz Forum is pleased to recognise the support from a wide range of musician and we are proud that we also have support from young musicians who are still at school.

The Andy Townsend Big Band

The Andy Townsend Big Band is predominantly a blend of professional and semi-professional musicians, meeting up once a month to perform in Newbury. The band offers a varied profile of players, who boast a wealth of musical experience and this is certainly evident in the overall performance. The band performs a wide variety of music ranging from the 1930's through to more current and contemporary artists.

The Big Band perform on the last Sunday of every month at Shaw Social Club, Almond Avenue, Newbury, open to the public between 8pm and 10pm. Please feel free to join them for a drink to listen to their wide repertoire, or perhaps to dance to some well-known favourites in an informal setting. Non-members of the club are required to pay a small admission fee on the door.

The Andy Townsend Big Band was set up to give professional players a platform to play alongside colleagues of a similar standard and players travel from near and far to be part of the band. The band is looking to utilise their sessions to promote their music and welcome enquiries from charities that may like to work in conjunction with the evenings to raise their own profiles. Similarly the band is available for private bookings.

The Apollo Big Band

The Apollo Big Band is based in Stockcross and is a non-profit making society formed in January 2001 by George Wicks and Nigel Revler. The objectives of the band are to promote interest and participation in music from the big band era.

In addition to playing regularly at the Newbury Corn Exchange and the Glebe, Stockcross, the Apollo Big Band has played at The Anvil Theatre I Basingstoke, The Hexagon Theatre in Reading and the Theatre Royal in Winchester, and has performed in Holland, Germany and Switzerland. The band has supported charity events, including a show at The Camberley Theatre for the Star and Garter Home for disabled servicemen. See our pictures for more.

The band rehearses on Thursday evenings in Stockcross Village Hall from 8-10pm. The band occasionally invites deputies to join rehearsal sessions and sometimes gigs when there are vacancies.

Please feel free to contact us if you would like to hear the type of music we perform. In addition to a number of private events the band has organised several Friends and Family evenings for fun and to try out new numbers.

The band is available to play for both private functions and public gigs.
